West Bengal is a state in the east of India. Undivided Bengal was the western part of the province, hence the name West Bengal. Its latitude range is 21 ° 38 'N to 27 ° 10' N. Its longitudinal range is 85 ° 30 'east to 89 ° 53' east. The north-south range of West Bengal is 623 km and the east-west range is about 320 km. The narrowest part of the state is Chopra in Uttar-Dinajpur district which is 9 km wide which is known as Chicken's Neck. The Tropic of Cancer divides West Bengal into two parts. The Tropic of Cancer line extends to five districts of West BengalNadia (Krishnanagar, Dhubulia), East Burdwan (East, Guskara, Ausgram), West Burdwan (Durgapur), Bankura (Barajora, Gangajal Ghati) and Purulia (Anara, Jaipur). West Bengal occupies 2.67 per cent of the total area of India. West Bengal touches the borders of 5 neighboring states. These are Bihar and Jharkhand to the west (maximum border), Orissa to the south, Assam to the northeast and Sikkim to the north. West Bengal touches the international border with three neighboring countries. These are Bhutan in the north, Nepal in the northwest and Bangladesh in the east (maximum touching 2272 km).

(1) Northern Highlands
The land in the northern part of West Bengal is mountainous. With the exception of Siliguri subdivision, the entire Darjeeling district and the northern part of Jalpaiguri district) belong to this region. The northern highlands are commonly known as the Darjeeling Himalayas. At present the northernmost states are located in the eastern Himalayas. The highest peak in West Bengal is Sandakanfu at 3630 m. The river Teesta divides this region into two parts. E.g.
(i) Western Hill Tracts and
(ii) Eastern Hill Tracts
The Western Mountain Region The two main mountain ranges of this region are the Singalila which is Nepal.
Separates Sikkim from the other and the other is the Darjeeling mountainsClass. The ancient Silk Route runs through the small town of Pedong, near Kalimpong. Pedong is also called the city of orchids. The main peaks of the Singalila range are Sandakafu
(3630 m.), Falut (3,595 m.), Sabargram (3036 m.) And (3121 m.). The Darjeeling mountain range is known as the sleep class. I fell asleep

Tiger Hill (3121 m.).
Eastern Mountain Region
Khabila (3121 m) is the highest peak in the region. Sinchala is the common border between Bhutan and Jalpaiguri in this region.The main pass in the region is Banga. It maintains the connection between India and Bhutan.
₹ (2) Western Plateau:
The western plateau consists of all the districts of Purulia, West of Birbhum, Burdwan, Bankura and West Midnapore. This plateau is made up of small hills. Their local name is Dungri or Tila. Ayodhya and Baghmundi are the two main hills of Purulia. There is a hot spring in Bakreshwar of Birbhum. There are also some artesian wells at Khairrol and Mohammad Bazaar in Birbhum.
